Ginger is a plant originating from China which belongs to the turmeric and cardamom family. The rhizome (underground part of the stem) is the part commonly used as a spice.
It is often called ginger root, or simply ginger.
Powdered ginger is the most used version of ginger in the kitchen, which already occupies a very important place in the spices of every Albanian housewife.
